ZabihaScan doesn't have user accounts, and we don't collect names, emails, or passwords. Here's exactly what we do collect and why.
What we collect
- Barcodes you scan or type, to look up or save a product.
- Photos you upload when contributing a product (front, back, and ingredients label). These become part of the product's public record so others can verify it.
- Coarse, IP-based location (approximate latitude/longitude, not GPS) attached to contributions, for provenance and abuse prevention.
- An anonymous device identifier issued by Firebase Authentication when you contribute a product, so uploads can be tied to a rate limit — not to you personally.
Third parties involved
Looking up or contributing a product involves a few outside services, each of which receives your IP address as part of a normal web request:
- OpenFoodFacts — an open food-product database we query for product metadata and, when available, ingredient data.
- freeipapi.com — used to estimate coarse location for contributions.
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud — hosts our database, file storage, and authentication.
How long we keep data
Product data (photos, extracted text, verdicts) is kept indefinitely, since the point of ZabihaScan is a shared, lasting community database. If you contributed something and want it removed, contact us.
We don't sell your data
We don't sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers. Period.
Children's privacy
ZabihaScan isn't directed at children and we don't knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally; continued use of the Service means you accept the update.
